Calypso

Well, I've had a busy three days. Not filled completely with work sort of busy, but busy none-the-less. The main reason for it being so is the Kids Church holiday program, Calypso. I had expected it to be a lot of work, but I really had a lot of fun. It was on from 10am-1pm each day (leaders arrive 9am for set-up, leave 1:30-2ish after pack-up/group debrief), and tonight, the last night, we also had a dinner on for the kids and parents (5:50ish to 8:30 including set-up/pack-up). I'm not going to go into heaps of detail about all of it, but I'll venture a point or two:

Wednesday: I was on registration, and man, I was busy on Wednesday. For some reason all the kids got there ten or fifteen minutes early, while the leaders were praying, so when we got out to start putting them through there were heaps of them. I was still new to the process, too, so I missed a step or two for some kids, but it got sorted out eventually. At morning tea I helped out with face-painting, which I've realised I love doing. It was awesome - I made some kids into Spiderman, and when the line had disappeared, I wrote my team name (Hula) on my arm in green paint (team colour ftw), and soon all the kids wanted their team name. Yeah, that's right. I started a trend. Awesome day, great fun.

Thursday: I had a better idea of what I was supposed to be doing for the whole day, so I think I was a bit more relaxed for the whole time. Szymon wanted to join in on face painting for a little while, and I barely got my glasses out of the way before he got black paint al over them. After Calypso I had to get something at the shops on the way home, and forgot that I still had part of his scribble/moustache creation on my face. People were all smiling at me for some reason.

Friday (today): My day can be summed up in one word: Evie. She's a little girl from the KFC age group (K-2) who attaches herself to me whenever I'm helping out, and this day was no different. She's rather shy to start out with, so she was scared to stay for the day at first, but I said she could be my helped at registration, and let her highlight names of kids when they came. She wouldn't dance, when I sat down, she sat in my lap, she put her name tag on me, and would not go anywhere without me, except one quick run away to the bathroom. I mentioned at one point to Amelia that I had a shadow, and she realised it was true when I sat down at the afternoon games and Evie climbed on my back, like for a piggyback ride. I love her to pieces, and I don't have any issues with her doing that, but I want to make sure she's not just relying on my and not making any other friends. She wouldn't dance during the music time to start with, but after a little while she joined in, and seemed not to notice when I stepped back a bit for a little space.

My arms are aching so much from Evie hanging off them and getting me to twirl her around and everything. The left one especially. I'm probably growing muscles from it all. (I don't want muscles - I want to lose fat T_T)

Anyway, other than Kids club, in past few days Mum's gone back home to England, I've changed the books for the church bookstore, and hung out with friends. I've had barely three hours break at most each day, and I have nothing on tomorrow. Nothing on a Saturday! Must be the first one since before Soccer. Thank goodness. I'm letting myself sleep in for a bit.

PS. My hands have been sticky this whole day, even though I've washed them over and over. Must be working with kids.
